I can connect thru my router to the internet without any problems, and I can also print to either of the 2 network printers on my home network. But I cannot connect to the workgroup and cannot do backups to my NAS, or transfer files (or even "see") my laptop on the same workgroup. The network taskbar icon sez "Not Connected" and when I run the "Diagonose why windows can't find any networks" the response comes back as "This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured" It's true, I don't have a wireless adapter, but connect via a wired connection.I'm running a Linksys WRT600n router. I've tried removing the router and running only on my Linksys switch - no change. I have 2 1gb ethernet ports on my motherboard - Asus M2N SLI Delux - I have reinstalled the motherboard chipset drivers. I have installed a Linksys network card and disabled the motherboard adapters, no change.I'm at a loss - can anyone help? Do you need more info? Do I need to fuss with netsh?Thanks in advance!!

Hi, I suggest that you boot in Safe Mode with Networking first. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode with Networking, the issue can be caused by incompatible programs or hardware. 1. Reboot the computer. 2. When the Starting Windows screen shows, press F8. 3. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter. 4. Log on with your user account. Otherwise, if the issue persists in Safe Mode, please check IP settings of the network connection. 1. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "ncpa.cpl" and press Enter. 2. Right-click on the "Local Area Connection", and choose Properties. 3. Double-click Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), set the computer to obtain IP address and DNS server automatically.4. Click OK to quit. If the issue is not resolved, please upload the IP configuration information for research. 1. Click Start, in the Start Search box type "cmd" and press Enter.2. Type the following command. ipconfig /all > %userprofile%\desktop\ipconfig.txt 3. On Desktop, open the new created file ipconfig.txt, and copy the contents into your post. Hi, The IP configuration is correct. Since you can access the NAS with its IP address in IE, the network connection works properly. Some network share and discovery settings may be not enabled. Please follow the steps below. 1. Click Start->Control Panel, double-click on "Network and Sharing Center"2. Enable "Network discovery" and "File sharing". If the issue is not resolved, please try to access other computers with IP address. Please click Start, in the Start Search box type "\\[IP address of the computer]". Is the access successful? If there is any error message, please let me know the content. Also please click Start->Control Panel, double-click on "Network and Sharing Center". In the left pane click "View computers and devices". Please let me know if the other computers list in the opened window and whether you can open them. Please then follow the steps below to apply a correct connection. 1. On taskbar, click on the icon of the network connection. 2. Click "Connect to a network". 3. There should be two "Local Area Connection". Please select the worked connection if it exists.Is the icon on Taskbar correct? Also please try to access the workgroup. If it does not work, please check and remove all wireless network related programs if you have installed them before. Then restart the computer and check the result. If the issue persists, I suggest that you temporary disable the second on-board network adapter in BIOS. Well, nothing you suggested worked. I've actually been trying to figure this out for almost a month, searching the 'net for answers and finally finding this forum.Last night after I finished my weekly backups I re-installed Vista. Now the network is working perfectly. I'm carefully re-installing programs and will check frequently for proper network operation. That way if I see any problems I'll be able to back-track to identify the culprit.Again, thanks for your help !Steve

This is crazy. I applied MS updates a couple of nights ago and my computer stopped working. Since I have everything backed up, I went ahead and did a complete new install after repair didn't work (after about an hour of trying). Now I can't connect to my Linksys router. I have a dual boot with Ubuntu being my other option. If I boot up in Ubuntu (Linux), I can see and connect to the router right away. I've tried everything suggested above and nothing works. The really sad part is that there are two groups of people who visit my favorite local watering-hole. The ones who have Macs are surfing and those of us with PCs are drinking, because none of us can connect. When (if) I figure this out, I'll post the solution to this big mystery. ............. UPDATE: I updated my Sony wireless driver. Viola! My laptop is a VGN-FZ460E and I updated my driver from their support page.

Hi all, I am having the same problem with my Dad's computer. He restored factory settings and ever since he has been unable to find the wireless internet. The internet is working as both my laptop and iphone are connecting to it. Before he restored his laptop, it also connected to the wireless connection. His computer will now only connect through the ethernet connection. When I search for wireless networks it is tell me "This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured". I do not really understand what this means. I do not know much of the terminology for computers but can follow instructions. I have followed the above instructions Also please click Start->Control Panel, double-click on "Network and Sharing Center". In the left pane click "View computers and devices". Please let me know if the other computers list in the opened window and whether you can open them. and it is showing me two users Owner-PC and Kevin-PC. I can connect to Kevin-PC but not to Owner-PC.
